Title: Hybrid Presence
Year: 2005/2006
Concept and Realisation: Patrischa Freuler, Christoph Leitner, Jessica Wirth
Concept: This piece of work creates a hybrid presence out of different parts of time. In the cube inside the cube the common time perception gets destroyed. Different times in the time are shown. The time axis gets compressed layers are overlapping each other. The visitor interacts with projections of persons who also have been in the installation beyond the time axis in both directions – future and past.

left: this short clip illustrates the aesthetic of what the user sees inside the cube, unfotunately it doesn't illustrate the experience very well.

Description: The Installation is inside a cube inside a room. A sensor detects when somebody enters the cube and a timeframe for the installation gets defined. The visitor only sees a screen inside which shows the inside of the white cube but it is not a live stream because the visitor doesn't see himself. By and by other persons are entering the room inside the screen, overlapping each other. Suddenly the visitor sees himself on the screen when he enters the room. The people on the screen appear and disappear, and so does the projection of the visitor. It also switches in time – sometimes the video is real-time, sometimes delayed in different steps, sometimes both (the user can see up to 4 projections of himself). In the virtual space behind the screen all persons exist at the same time and the visitor in the cube can react and interact with other projections.
